Printed Books Section:
The Institute has acquired more than 26,000 printed books in its well-managed library. These books are mainly related to Jain and Vedic Texts and studies in various Indian languages viz. Sanskrit, Prakrit, Pali, Ardha-magadhi, Apabhramsha, Maru-gurjar, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Oriya, Punjabi, Urdu languages as well as in English, German, French also.
Manuscripts Section:
About 25,000 old manuscripts on paper are preserved here. This treasure has been acquired from various Bhandaras including those brought over from Pakistan with the inspiration and guidance of Rev. Late Acharya Vijay Vallabhsuriji Maharaj. These manuscripts are related to Jaina Agamas, Literature, Grammar, Vedic Literature, Philosophy, Logic, Ayurveda, Astrology, Astronomy, Art, Architecture, Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries. These manuscripts are written in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Pali, Ardhamagadhi, Maru-Gurjar, Rajasthani, Old Hindi and Gujarati languages. This valuable collection of manuscripts is well stored, preserved and catalogued. Some of the manuscripts are rare and exquisitely illustrated. Some illustrated manuscripts are displayed in the Museum.
The information of these manuscripts is catalogued under the auspices of National Archives of India (Govt. of India) and can be viewed on the official website of National Informatics Centre, New Delhi viz. www.jainmanuscripts.nic.in
Now BLII is planning to publish the catalogue of these manuscripts in phases.
Conservation Laboratory:
Since the BLII owns about 18,000 manuscripts, a Manuscript Conservation Laboratory was set up in June 2000 for the repairing of fragile, brittle, termite/ worm eaten manuscripts.
Photostat Section:
Library also possesses Photostat copies of 1500 selected very old manuscripts of Hemachandracharya Jain Gyan Bhandar, Patan (North Gujarat), which we could collect with the inspirations and assistance of Shrut Sthavira Muni Shri Jambuvijayji Maharaj.
Periodical Section:
The Institute receives about 50 periodicals, journals on a regular basis, which includes Jain Spirit, Jain Journal, Arhat-vachan, Titthyar, Shodhadarsh, Jain Siddhant Bhaskar, Shraman, Sambodhi, Samipya, Vijayanand, Jain Bharati, Kalyan, Vedant Kesari, Yuva-drusti etc.
Computerized Cataloguing of Library books:
At present the computerization of Books is in progress. After completion of this task the readers could be able to trace the titles with the help of various key words viz. title, sub-title, author, translator, editor, Commentator, various aliases, Publication Series, Publisher, publication place, year etc. There is also a plan to put this computerized catalogue on Website. |
